UVG has evolved from being just a buying group run part-time from a vet clinic, to a complete program showing vets how to increase profits, reduce stress, and deliver an outstanding client service experience, without increasing their overheads.
In November of 2006, Dr Sam Bowden heard a comment from someone who worked outside of the vet industry. They said, “You vets are mad. You should form a buying group to give you some control over what you pay for supplies. It occurs in every other industry. Why isn’t there one for vets?”
At the time Dr Sam was in a tight financial position and was running a small practice and found he had little or no negotiating size, when it came to trying to improve his bottom line. Every cent counted for him, and he soon found that he wasn’t the only one in this situation. It made sense to form a buying group and UVG was formed. With just six practices UVG was born with the goal of the veterinary industry banding together to share ideas and buying power. It made a lot of sense for these first six practices to no longer try and go it alone. There are now hundreds of practices around the country, who contribute to the buying power of UVG.
However, the real value for members is not just in the thousands of dollars they save, but in the community of veterinary practices they join. The ability to participate in a mastermind group with other like-minded practice owners or attend the annual veterinary business bootcamp is seen by many members as the bigger benefit of UVG. The vision of UVG is to have a veterinary community together achieving better results. Instead of vets working against each other, why not work together to share business ideas, increase buying power, and remove the isolation of owning a vet practice.
UVG has evolved from being just a buying group run part-time from a vet clinic, to a complete program showing vets how to increase profits, reduce stress, increase motivation, and deliver an outstanding client service experience, without increasing their overheads. The bigger picture of UVG is to get vet practices unified, to be able to correct the big issues in our industry of stress, low profit and the associated tolls these take. We aim to reshape the vet industry by changing the mindset of the industry members. We do this by getting the right information and opportunities to a large group practices.
